Hello, my name is Will Young and I am asking transgender males for their participation in a survey I am conducting. Being transgender myself, I began this project as an opportunity to look at the many ways transmen visibly portray their gender identity throughout their lives, both publicly and privately. While there are many varying types of labels people can identify as (FtM, genderqueer, transbutch), this study will focus on people who in some way identify under the umbrella term, “transgender,” specifically, transgender men.
This survey will ask transgender men open-ended questions regarding their job, clothing, sexuality, and family relationships in regard to how these reflect and affect their gender identity. This survey is part of my student-designed major focusing on transgender subjectives at Saint Mary’s College and is being conducted to fulfill a senior comprehensive project requirement. In any report of the study, participants’ locations and any names mentioned will be changed to insure that individuals who participate will not be identified by anything reported about within the survey. Participants can go back and finish their survey or change their answers until the survey closes on August 1, 2008. Furthermore, participants may stop the survey process at any time without penalty or can skip questions. I feel it is important to give all transmen a voice no matter their race and ethnicity, religion, or ability, among other areas of diversity, and therefore, I would appreciate your insight in this project.
